More armory as Kenya security forces prepare for election
The Kenya police force has so far acquired new anti-riot equipment which include 20 water cannons.
Special police clothes, clubs and special anti-riot water cannons as the government fight insecurity and violence.
The purchase which is said to have been catered for by the Sh3.8 billion allocated to the security sector to address equipment is part of the effort by the government to enhance police operations in the war on terror and also root out violence.
So far, 30 armored personnel carriers have been distributed to various parts of the country in less than a year and shared among the regular police and Administration Police.
Officials say that as more police equipment get shipped in, all these will be deployed to the main border areas, especially the Kenya-Somalia border, to help fight terrorism and all the post-election hotspots to fight crime.
The 25 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPS) that have been purchased are expected to help protect officers against improvised explosive devices that have been rampant in the country.
