Deposed Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe is said to be holed up in his palatial mansion. Zimbabwean Defence Force took power 2 days ago following a political crisis.
Zimbabwe is in turmoil after the military seized power from Robert Mugabe. The 93-year-old leader pushed the country into a political crisis when he sacked vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The move was a well calculated strategy by the country’s ruling Zanu-PF party to clear the way for Mugabe’s wife Grace Mugabe to succeed her nonagenarian husband.
The military quickly intervened to end what it terms as purges against liberation heroes. The sacked VP Mnangagwa is revered by the military and is reportedly being installed as president.
Mugabe’s 37 year rule of Zimbabwe was put to a stop when the military took over. The 93-year-old leader has been put under house arrest as the military seizes control of the nation.
The deposed leader is being confined at his palatial home in the leafy Harare suburb of Borrowdale. The president’s 25-bedroom mansion sits in a 44 acre parcel of land.
Mugabe’s mansion was reportedly constructed by a Serbian construction company Energoproject to a Chinese architectural design.
The president’s residence is nicknamed ‘Blue Roof’ and has two lakes in its 44 acre landscaped grounds. Mugabe’s private residence is protected by a multi-million shillings radar system.
