What you didn’t know about celebrated Lagendry Sports-woman Cathrine Ndereba.

She has made headlines world over on track. A well decorated Kenya marathon runner, Catherine Nyambura Nderba is a celebrated marathoner at the world championships in Athletics and has taken a number of silver medals in Olympics in years of 2004 and 2008.

Impressively, she was born in 1972 indicating her ripe age. She has been a four time winner of the Boston Marathon and has soared so high to a level of breaking women’s marathon world record in 2001 where she went down to hit a 2:18:47 time record at Chicago marathon.

A proud daughter of the soil, Catherine hails from Gatunganga in Nyeri County, schooled in Ngorano Secondary School where she ironed her running skills during her early schooling days of her time.

Her sporting breakthrough came in when in the mid 90’s she was recruited to the Kenya prisons force where she later joined their athletics program where she went on to win the 2004 and 2005 sportswoman of the year awards.

President Mwai Kibaki in 2005 awarded her with the Order of the Golden Worrior in 2005. She has

Ndereba, whose nickname is ‘Catherine the Great’, currently, lives in Nairobi with her family of the husband Antony Maina and daughter.

Her brother Samuel and sister Anastasia are also marathon runners.

She has made her name in large tunes, from magazines to local power emissaries. On top all, In 2008, Ndereba was described by a Chicago Tribune sportswear as the greatest women’s marathoner of all time.
