The Chief Executive Officer of Teachers Service Commission, TSC, Nancy Macharia has announced that the commission plans to hire 35,000 teachers in the next financial year. In a report tabled to Parliament, TSC aims to get thirteen billion from the budget, of which two billion will go towards the hiring of interns while ten billion will hire permanent-basis teachers.
The recruitment will guarantee that there is smooth efficiency in the running of the CBC curriculum. “With grade six and four transitioning into junior high school in 2023, this will call for more teachers as there will be a higher enrollment.” Nancy Macharia said.
There is currently a shortage of about fourty nine thousand teachers according to the commission. The commission said that it will also use a further billion to train the teachers that are supposed to teach in senior secondary positions.
