Nominated MP Maina Kamanda has announced plans to abandon President Uhuru Kenyatta after a long while of supporting and defending him.
He is among the President’s biggest supporters in Nairobi county, which has by extension made him a supporter of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
But he now says that he might be forced to leave if Uhuru’s men continue imposing aspirants on them and forcing them to support them for elective seats.
He says that they have had enough and won’t allow Uhuru’s honchos to impose former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycurp Igathe on them as the Jubilee Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi.
The Nairobi Senator aspirant told The Star that should the plan not be dropped then himself and those sharing in his ideologies might have to leave.
“We cannot allow someone who resigned from the job that Nairobians gave him to be pushed upon us through the backdoor,” the lawmaker is quoted.
This follows reports that Uhuru, Raila and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka have agreed to have Igathe deputized by Wiper’s Philip Kaloki as ODM’s Tim Wanyonyi is backed for the Senator seat.
The move could also make ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna another victim, given that he too is keen on succeeding Johnson Sakaja as Nairobi Senator.
Sakaja on Wednesday led a group of Luhya city politicians in demanding that Wanyonyi be named the ODM governor aspirant as repayment for the region’s long term support for the party.
“As the Mulembe nation, we are number two in the city. We account for 1.4 million of the residents and we have over the years loyally supported other communities. We have to be given this seat,” the leaders said in a statement.
